WESTPORT — A man accused of stealing credit cards from a locker at the Westport Weston Family YMCA and using them to make fraudulent purchases in Norwalk was recorded by surveillance cameras every step of the way — from the locker room to leaving the Y to entering Norwalk to illegally using the credit cards —  the police report indicates.

Massimo Zhong, 20, of Weston, was charged July 8 with fourth-degree and sixth-degree larceny, second-degree identity theft and receipt of goods by illegally using a credit card in connection with the incident last month.

Police were alerted June 3 that a wallet with credit cards was stolen from a locker at the Westport Weston Family YMCA, and that the stolen cards were later used fraudulently in Norwalk.

Investigators obtained footage recorded by surveillance cameras at the YMCA where a suspect — identified by police as Massimo Zhong — was seen entering the building on Allen Raymond Lane, going into the locker room and then leaving.

He then was recorded entering a car in the Y’s parking lot and investigators were able to note the license plate number as the vehicle was driven away.

That vehicle, identified by the same license plate, subsequently was recorded by a Norwalk police license-plate reader in front of the SoNo Collection mall in that city, according to the report.

And inside the mall, Zhong was allegedly recorded by surveillance cameras using the stolen credit cards to make fraudulent purchases, police said.

A warrant for Zhong’s arrest was issued, and he was arrested July 8 by Westport police. He was held on $15,000 bond and transported the next day to state Superior Court in Stamford for arraignment.
