FAIRFIELD — Sparked by a sharp-shooting first quarter of play, the Staples boys basketball team pulled away early and cruised to a 51-44 win at Fairfield Ludlowe on Friday.
The Wreckers stretched their winning streak to six and improved to 11-4 overall with five games to play in the regular season.
Staples led 22-6 after one quarter of play and held a 28-21 halftime lead,
Sam Clachko led with 23 points, hitting six 3-pointers in the contest. Nick Sikorski drained a trio of 3-pointers for nine points.
Mason Tobias scored eight, Adam Udell had five (including a 3-pointer) and Dhilan Lowman and Caleb Smith both scored three, each connecting from downtown.
The Wreckers are back in action Monday, Feb. 12, when Trumbull visits at 7 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
