WESTPORT — The annual “State of the Town” report will be delivered Feb. 4 by First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker and Board of Education Chair Lee Goldstein.

There should be a lot to talk about.

Plans for a new Long Lots Elementary School, redesign of Parker Harding Plaza’s parking lot, prospective spikes in the education budget and town debt, future of Westport Community Gardens, civility and transparency (or lack thereof) in public discourse.

Each of those topics and others have been factors contributing to what often proved to be a “state” of controversy and debate in town over the last year. The issues likely will continue to be flashpoints in 2024.

The two officials will deliver their assessments of all that in the “State of the Town” program set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road.

The free program, sponsored by the Westport Rotary and Westport Sunrise Rotary clubs, also will be live-streamed at this link.

Following the officials’ presentations, there will be a question-and-answer period. Jeff Wieser, the Representative Town Meeting moderator, will moderate the event.
