WESTPORT — The annual Fairfield Half Marathon race Sunday, following a course that includes roads in the Greens Farms area of Westport, will cause street closures and traffic congestion, police said in a traffic advisory.
The race, which also is the state championship for half-marathon runners this year, is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 4, at Jennings Beach in Fairfield.
About three miles of the 13.1-mile race follows streets in Westport. Click here to see a map of the route.
Runners will enter Westport on Greens Farms Road at the Fairfield town line, continuing to New Creek Road and then Beachside Avenue before re-entering Fairfield and heading to the finish line at Jennings Beach.
The lead runners are expected to hit the Westport stretch of the race about 8:15 a.m. Sunday, according to organizers, and police warn that drivers “should anticipate heavy delays due to road closures along the race route” for about two hours while most of the runners pass through town.
Residents along the route, police also said, “should expect that it will be difficult to get in or out of driveways” while runners are still on the course.
Emergency personnel will be stationed along the route to respond to any incidents, if needed, while the race takes place.
