
WESTPORT — Tony Award-winning actor André De Shields, who performed in the original cast of “Ain’t Misbehavin:’ The Fats Waller Musical,” will appear at an April 16 program at the Westport Country Playhouse.
The event, planned in conjunction with the playhouse’s current production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” will take place following the 3 p.m. performance Sunday, April 16, at the theater, 25 Powers Court.
The “Sunday Symposium” is free and open to the public, and a ticket to the performance is not needed to attend. Reserve a place by clicking here. People planning to attend the symposium should “arrive at the playhouse approximately two hours after curtain time; the symposium will begin immediately after the performance, at approximately 5 p.m.,” according to a publicity release.
Ticket holders for the Sunday matinee also will be automatically invited to stay for the symposium, theater officials said.
During the program, De Shields will discuss “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” with Jeffrey L. Page, director and choreographer of the playhouse production. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Lamos, playhouse artistic director.
De Shields also performed in a 1982 NBC television broadcast of “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement.
In 2019, De Shields won Tony, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Grammy awards for his role as Hermes in “Hadestown.” He portrayed Ben Loman in the 2022 Broadway production of “Death of a Salesman.”
He also is known for his performances in the Broadway stagings of “The Wiz,” “Play On!” and “The Full Monty.”
