Following is the obituary for HAROLD GROSS, submitted for the family by the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home.

Harold Gross, 96, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.

Harold was born in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Marton and Malvina Grosz. He graduated from high school in 1944 and proudly served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. He remained in Japan with the occupational forces and continued to live there for 13 years.

Harold had the unique opportunity to see the world through his work, selling medical and dental equipment and supplies to countries in need. 

He became fluent in both Japanese and Portuguese, and enjoyed maintaining his multilingual skills throughout his life. Harold lived a life of principles and was content with all he had.


Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Francine Schweiger; son, David Grosz; stepson, Jordan Schweiger (Wendi) and their children Chase, Mason and Sloane Schweiger; son-in-law, Michael Collins; grandson, Nick Grosz, and nephew Daniel Gross. He was predeceased by his daughters, Diana Gross and Debbie Collins; grandson, Brian Grosz, and his brother Joseph “Lenny” Grosz.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield.
