WESTPORT — A summer celebration of seafood by the seashore.

That’s LobsterFest, the annual beach party organized at Compo Beach by the Westport Rotary Club, which is set from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. The 11th yearly event will take place, rain or shine.

Tickets to the popular event already have sold out.

But to help pull off LobsterFest — which is Westport Rotary’s largest annual fundraiser — event organizers are still looking for volunteers and sponsors.

At previous LobsterFests, volunteers served approximately 2,400 lobsters, 300 steaks and 1,600 ears of corn, as well as raw oysters and clams.

Potential volunteers or sponsors should check the Westport Rotary Club website for more information and to register.

Funds raised by LobsterFest enable the Westport Rotary Club to award more than 36 “Charitable Giving” grants to area nonprofits and to support humanitarian projects around the world.

Among the area nonprofits that have received Rotary grants are the Mercy Learning Center in Bridgeport, a non-profit helping women become fluent in English, obtain GEDs, go onto college and support their families, as well as the Child Guidance of Fairfield County, which provides psychological and educational support to children.

Other causes that received support include food pantries, environmental initiatives, educational and summer program scholarships and behavioral health.
