WESTPORT — A Stratford man faces a charge of impaired driving and other offenses after his pickup truck crashed into a tree on Morningside Drive South more than two years ago.
Jose Guevara, 23, was charged June 29 with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, traveling too fast for conditions and failure to renew a vehicle’s registration.
Investigation of the incident began when an accident was reported about 10:40 p.m. March 8, 2020, in the area of 31 Morningside Drive South, police said.
At the scene, according to the report, officers found a pickup heavily damaged after striking a tree and “other objects.”
The driver was identified by police as Jose Guevara. An alcoholic odor was detected coming from Guevara, police said, but he was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries before sobriety tests could be conducted.
The officer investigating the crash later was issued a search warrant to obtain Guevara’s blood-alcohol test results from the hospital. The toxicology report, police said, showed Guevara’s blood-alcohol level at the time of the accident was above the legal limit.
Based on that test result and police observation of Guevara on the night of the crash, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
After Guevara’s arrest on June 29, he was released after posting $500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges July 8 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
