WESTPORT — “Signs” of things to come downtown were reviewed Tuesday at a joint meeting of two town boards.

Timothy Oulton sign approved

The sign for a new Main Street furniture store — “Timothy Oulton,” a British retailer known for hand-crafted leather furnishings — won unanimous approval at the meeting of the Historic District Commission and Architectural Review Board.

The sign for the Oulton store, set to open at 38 Main St., was okayed with little comment from board members.

A rendering of the sign proposed for the new Main Street store of British furniture retailer, Timothy Oulton.

The members who commented said they like the sign, complete with a stainless steel electroplated bowler hat — a signature logo for the business — topping the store’s name.

The bowler hat is part of Timothy Oulton’s branding, a representative of MMK Custom Signs told the boards.

Timothy Oulton is an international furniture business, named after its founder, with 55 stores around the world, including a New York City outlet.

The Westport store was originally slated to open by Memorial Day, but now is expected to open by the end of July.

 Il Pastaficio sign on hold

The review of a sign proposed for a new restaurant at 135 Post Road East was postponed when the representative from the sign company did not attend Tuesday’s meeting.

The restaurant, Il Pastaficio, a fresh pasta store and café, is the second pasta shop owned by Frederico Perandine.

The first is in Cos Cob.
