WESTPORT — Two local student groups — at the high school and elementary levels — have won honors for their video productions broadcast as public service announcements over the last year on Channel 78, the region’s educational-access outlet.

Westport students presented with the Access Awareness Awards, sponsored by the Area 9 Cable Council and Altice, are:

High School Public Service Announcement, second place: Staples High School students Jane Weil, Ava Waldman, Jacob Baker and Cooper Tirola for their video, “After.”

Elementary School Public Service Announcement, first place: King’s Highway Elementary School students Kylie Dorfman, Presley Levin, Samantha Frank, Adrienne Bihl, Alexander Sheefel and Grey Shugrue for their video, “Think Before You Print.”

The contest, open to kindergarten through high school students within the Area 9 Cable Council’s jurisdiction, is designed “to encourage students to develop video production and storytelling skills by creating access television shows relevant to their school and community,” according to the awards announcement.

An “Eddy” trophy — for educational access — will be presented to all the schools whose students’ projects were recognized in the contest.

And a certificate will be presented to every student who helped to create each of the first-, second- and third-place video projects.
