SUMMARY:What the Constitution Means to Me
DESCRIPTION:Script in Hand Playreading \nPlaywright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking\, Obie Award–winning play breathes new life into the United States Constitution and imagines how it might shape the next generation of Americans. \nAt fifteen\, Heidi earned her college tuition by competing in Constitutional debate competitions across the country. In this hilarious\, hopeful\, and achingly human play\, she revisits her teenage self to explore how this living document has shaped her family\, her future\, and the very fabric of our nation. \nA New York Times Critic’s Pick\, Tony Award nominee\, and Pulitzer Prize finalist\, What the Constitution Means to Me is a buoyant\, deeply personal\, and thought-provoking exploration of how our nation’s defining document continues to influence our lives and ideals. With humor\, heart\, and insight\, Heidi Schreck invites us to consider what the Constitution means today\, and what it could mean for the future.

SUMMARY:Quilting Bee Demo with Peace by Piece: The Norwalk Community Quilt Project
DESCRIPTION:See a live quilting demonstration with members of a local group\, and contribute to our community quilting project.\n\n\nOn Saturday\, December 6\, from 2-4 p.m.\, members of Peace by Piece: The Norwalk Community Quilt Project will host a live quilting bee demo in the Walsh Gallery\, inspired by the quilts on view in the exhibition Stitching Time. Participants will also be invited to contribute squares to our community quilting project (supplies provided). \nAbout the Exhibition: Stitching Time features 12 quilts created by men who are incarcerated in the Louisiana State Penitentiary\, also known as Angola Prison. These works of art\, and accompanying recorded interviews\, tell the story of a unique inside-outside quilt collaboration. The exhibition focuses our attention on the quilt creators\, people often forgotten by society when discussing the history of the U.S. criminal justice system. Also on view in the gallery will be Give Me Life\, a selection of works from women artists presently or formerly incarcerated at York Correctional Institution\, a maximum security state prison in Niantic\, CT\, courtesy of Community Partners in Action (CPA). The CPA’s Prison Arts program was initiated in 1978 and is one of the longest-running projects of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1875\, CPA is celebrating 150 years of working within the criminal justice system. SUMMARY:Baroque Portrait Photography Adult Workshop with Lewis Derogene
DESCRIPTION:We invite you for an evening of classical portrait-making with artist and photographer Lewis Derogene. In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll explore how to channel the elegance and drama of Baroque paintings into your own portrait photography. \nWe’ll begin with a quick look at masterworks by painters like Vermeer and Rembrandt to better understand techniques—like chiaroscuro—that defined the era. Then\, we’ll dive into how those same effects can be recreated through lighting\, composition\, and set design. \nBring your camera or smartphone + bring a partner too\, as you’ll be photographing each other! You’ll learn how to set up lighting and backdrops\, use fabric and props to build a scene\, and frame portraits that feel both timeless and personal. \nAt the end of class\, participants will upload their top shots for a group critique. Images will be displayed on a large monitor for constructive feedback and shared inspiration. \nParticipants are encouraged to share their final portraits on Instagram and tag @MoCA_CT.

SUMMARY:Performance: Sarah Hennies and Tristan Kasten-Krause
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 6\, 2025 | 7 pm\n$10 Members and Students; $15 General Admission \nJoin us for an intimate duo performance by composer and percussionist Sarah Hennies and bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause\, presented in connection with Zak Prekop: Durations. Hennies and Kasten-Krause will present a 40-60 minute set of experimental music within the Museum’s galleries\, offering a meditative\, resonant experience that blurs the boundaries between sound\, space\, and visual art. \nSarah Hennies is known for her immersive and durational performances that explore psychoacoustic phenomena\, queerness\, and the act of listening. Her duo with Kasten-Krause combines sensitivity and restraint\, crafting quiet\, expansive works that unfold gradually over time. \nThis event is presented in conjunction with Zak Prekop: Durations (on view through January 11\, 2026)\, an exhibition exploring visual rhythm\, repetition\, and the temporality of painting. It also marks the launch of Zak Prekop’s first museum publication. This fully illustrated\, 32-page softcover catalogue features bold new abstract paintings by the artist\, along with an interview between Prekop and curator Eduardo Andres Alfonso. The catalogue will be available for purchase at the event.

SUMMARY:First Folk Sunday - Sentimental Journey
DESCRIPTION:SUZANNE SHERIDAN and Dave Childs (keyboards) and John Mobilio (standup bass) return to the 40’s on Pearl Harbor Day\, December 7. Singing the music from the American songbook is a first for First Folk Sunday but the opportunity was simply irresistible for a songstress with the versatility of SUZANNE SHERIDAN. \nSomeone once said\, “If it never gets old\, it’s folk music”. With that in mind\, Gershwin never gets old\, Cole Porter never gets old. The American standard repertoire of the 40’s\, which defined and enhanced the social order during World War II\, remains popular to this day. \nFirst Folk Sunday is approaching the last concert of its third season on December 7 and looking forward to its fourth season at the Saugatuck Rowing Club starting July 5\, 2026. \nIn addition to the purchase of a ticket\, the culinary team at Saugatuck Rowing Club\, 521 Riverside Avenue\, offers a First Folk Sunday brunch menu at each show along with craft cocktails and other beverages. Doors open at noon and the music begins at 12:30. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased on the First Folk Sunday website\, https://firstfolksunday.com \nFor more information call 203-984-7562

SUMMARY:Fred Elser First Sunday Science: Living with Ecological Purpose
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, December 7\, 2025 2–3pm\, Floren Family Environmental Center at Innis Arden Cottage\, Greenwich Point Park\, Old Greenwich\, CT \nJoin Scott Smith for a discussion on how you can start composting on your own or pitch in on a heap with your neighbors or community garden. Scott Smith is a longtime Connecticut resident\, avid gardener and author of “On Compost: A Year in the Life of a Suburban Garden” (Christmas Lake Press\, 2024). “On Compost” chronicles the cultivation of a suburban yard as a way to highlight the larger story of how to live more sustainably and with ecological purpose—and lots of freshly made living soil. The book illustrates how composting can reduce food and yard waste\, enrich soil\, boost biodiversity and combat climate change. More than just a guide to composting\, ‘On Compost’ shows how a simple backyard compost heap can bring neighbors together\, foster a sense of community\, and create shared experiences. \nIn keeping with the Seaside Center’s mission to protect and value the ecological riches of the Long Island Sound\, Smith will also discuss the time-honored use of a local resource—nutrient-rich seaweed\, sustainably harvested from a nearby beach. A soil conditioner prized by generations of farmers and gardeners alike\, seaweed contains trace elements\, micro-nutrients and plant growth compounds you’ll never find in any chemical fertilizer—or even in most organic ones. \nThis program is free of charge. No beach pass is required if you are attending the Fred Elser First Sunday Science. Please let them know at the gate you are attending the Bruce Museum Seaside Center lecture. First Sunday Science programs take place at the Floren Family Environmental Center at Innis Arden Cottage\, Greenwich Point Park\, Old Greenwich\, CT.
