SUMMARY:Film Screening of 'Eva Hesse' with a Q+A with the filmmaker\, Marcie Begleiter
DESCRIPTION:February 6\, 2026\n6pm \nIn conjunction with the current exhibition\, ‘Enough Already\,’ MoCACT presents a screening of ‘Eva Hesse’ (2016)\, a feature-length documentary by Marcie Begleiter that offers an intimate portrait of one of the most influential sculptors of the postwar era. \nEva Hesse\, a German-born American artist\, played a pivotal role in transforming 1960s sculpture\, moving it beyond the rigid geometries of Minimalism through her experimental use of materials such as latex\, fiberglass\, and rope. \nHesse was born on January 11\, 1936\, in Hamburg\, Germany\, into a family of observant Jews. She was the younger daughter of Wilhelm Hesse\, an attorney\, and Ruth Marcus Hesse. In December 1938\, when Hesse was two years old\, her parents—seeking to escape Nazi Germany—sent Eva and her older sister\, Helen Hesse Charash\, to the Netherlands aboard one of the last Kindertransport trains. \nThrough archival footage\, Hesse’s personal journals\, and candid interviews with artists including Richard Serra\, Robert and Sylvia Plimack Mangold\, Dan Graham\, Nancy Holt\, Carl Andre\, Tom Doyle\, and Lucy Lippard\, the film traces her brief but groundbreaking career and the lasting impact of her psychologically charged\, materially daring work on subsequent generations of artists. \nFollowing the screening\, filmmaker Marcie Begleiter will join us live via Zoom for a Q&A. \nJoin us to explore the life and legacy of an artist whose radical vision continues to shape contemporary art today.
