SUMMARY:King Stingray - FREE CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:FREE TICKET SHOW | WEDNESDAY\, SEPTEMBER 23 | 7:30PM SHOW / 6:30PM DOORS \nFree tickets may be reserved in advance via Event Website linked below! Free tickets are also issued day of show at the Box Office which opens 2-hours before show time on show days (based on available supplies). \nKing Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship. Growing up together in Yirrkala North-East Arnhem Land (a very remote Aboriginal community on in the northern tip of Australia) founding members Theo Dimathaya Burarrwanga(frontman) and Roy Kellaway (guitar) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember. Read more about their unique story here. The band blend ancient indigenous melodies (Yolŋu Manikay) with surf\, indie and funk influences to create their unique “Yolŋu surf-rock” sound which has captivated the nation. \nHailed as “one of the most exciting acts in the country today” (NME)\, King Stingray took out triple j’s ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’ J Award for 2021\, NME Australia’s ‘Best New Act From Australia’ and Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘Best New Artist’ award all before an album was released. Their much-anticipated debut LP ‘King Stingray’ dropped in August 2022\, supported by a typically cheeky campaign encouraging fans to take #kingstingday off to celebrate the album’s release. The band was nominated for a whopping five ARIA Awards (including a win for the ‘Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist’). In 2023 the band won the ‘Australian Music Prize. A total of five singles from the album made itinto triple j’s Hottest 100 making it the second most successful Aussie debuts in the history of the countdown. \nWith 2 albums under their belt now on the live front\, the band hasn’t missed a beat. They’ve toured all around the country playing all the major festivals such as Splendour in the Grass\, Falls and Spilt Milk to name a few. They supported Midnight Oil on their national stadium tour and performed before more than 100\,000 people at the MCG stadium during the AFL ‘Dreamtime at the G’ match. SUMMARY:MoCACT Sessions: Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition 2025 Winners Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening showcasing the winners of the 2025 Heida Hermanns International Music Competition. Since taking top honors last fall at MoCACT\, these already exceptional pianists have gone on to impressive achievements\, performing on major stages and earning recognition at worldwide competitions. \nYe-Eun Hyun\, a native of South Korea\, began her musical journey at the piano at just five years old. Her early promise was confirmed when she won top prize at the TBC Broadcasting Piano Competition and made her orchestral debut with the Daegu Philharmonic while still in high school. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Korea National University of Arts under Minsoo Sohn\, supported by a full Samsung Foundation scholarship\, before relocating to the United States in 2021 to complete her Master of Music at New England Conservatory with Academic Honors under Wha Kyung Byun. Her achievements include the Korean Honor Award from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea\, top honors at the Vienna International Piano Competition\, and the special contemporary music prize at the Knoxville International Piano Competition. She will soon make her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall\, and is currently pursuing her doctorate with Deborah Moriarty at Michigan State University on full scholarship. \nZhu Wang has been celebrated by the New York Times’ Anthony Tommasini\, who praised his performances for pairing lyrical warmth with crisp clarity. A First Prize winner of the 2020 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and Gold Medalist at the 2024 New Orleans International Piano Competition\, Zhu was also a finalist at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition and a prizewinner at the 2024 Cleveland International Piano Competition. The upcoming season includes Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Louisiana Philharmonic\, recitals at the Kaufman Music Center and Broman Concert Series\, chamber performances at Big Arts and Chesapeake Music Festival\, and a North American and European tour with violinist Randall Goosby. Born in Hunan Province\, China\, Zhu began playing at age five\, inspired by his grandfather’s love of music. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School\, he studied with Emanuel Ax\, Robert McDonald\, and Zhe Tang\, and now lives in New York City with his wife\, Chloe\, and their two cats\, Chaz and Tùzi.

SUMMARY:Encaustic and Collage with Leslie Giuliani
DESCRIPTION:In this class\, we’ll explore the ancient yet contemporary medium of Encaustic—beeswax-based paint that also serves as a versatile adhesive—to create unique collages. This technique is wonderfully flexible: if you’re not happy with an arrangement\, simply re-melt and re-position. Participants will learn how to build richly layered artworks using Encaustic as “glue\,” incorporating fabric\, stencils\, prints\, personal drawings\, even Spirograph designs! We’ll also experiment with laser copy transfers and direct drawing. No prior experience is necessary\, and all materials are included. \nLeslie Giuliani is an American contemporary artist whose work merges textiles\, encaustic\, oil painting\, and printmaking. Born in Philadelphia\, PA\, she earned her BFA from the University of Delaware and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Her artwork is held in the collections of the Housatonic Museum of Art\, the State of Connecticut\, and numerous private collections. Giuliani has been awarded an Artist Fellowship Grant from the State of Connecticut for Craft as well as a residency fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center. She lives and works in Weston\, CT.
